Giraffe Norwich Review

Giraffe, Norwich, Chapelfield

Cuisine - Varied - The menu possessed a vast amount of different food from different cultures for example Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Burgers, Duck noodles.

Price Range -Low/Medium - Ninety percent of the menu was at a low price with the cheapest being at £6.95 due to daily deals e.g. Burger Tuesdays. Many other items valued around the £10/£11 mark with highest price peaking at £15.99 which was for grill items. Drinks were extortionate at £4.30 for a pint of beer and £2.45 for a small sized soft drink.

Service - 8/10 - Upon enterance we were greeted by a relaxed yet friendly woman, letting us choose whatever table we wanted. She gave us time to order and was patient yet remained cheerful throughout, making us feel comfortable at all times. After taking our order the food arrived in good time and was piping hot. Quick to recognise we were students the waitress asked us first then offered us the student discount upon paying the bill which was very helpful as many people wouldn't have said anything in that situation.

Atmosphere - 6/10 - The place really lacked in the atmosphere department, there was a slight background music but nothing overwhelming. It was a Tuesday night however and I feel that to get the best out of this place you would have to visit in the afternoon as I've walked past many of times at lunch time and it's been packed.

Decor/Theme - 6/10 - Like the cuisine there was no real set pattern to the decor or theme and everything just seemed somewhat jumbled. Tables and chairs didn't really match as some were colourful and plastic and some were wooden. Two things I did like were the use of colour as they were bright and also that it had a bit of a quirky personality.

Food Presentation - 8.5/10 - Food was neatly presented and look very attractive to the eye. Enchiladas presented in a lasagne style dish on top of a rustic wooden plank and made for a nicely presented meal. Overall was a somewhat neat way to eat what can be a messy mexican dish. Topping off the enchiladas were a sprinkling of toasted seeds with salsa which were different but added a rustic yet organic feel.

Food/Value For Money - 7/10 - Food portion size was small for £10.95 however tasted nice with a flavoursome rice under a hot, indulgent beef enchilada which had good flavour. I enjoyed the toasted nut salsa to top off the main as they added a great texture. Probably the right price for my meal overall but I've had larger portions with more flavour else where. My friends meal were similarly small however the burger looked about the biggest out of the three.

Overall - 7/10 - I wouldn't go out of my way to return to Giraffe, however it's well worth a visit if you fancy a quick pit stop at lunch time while shopping in the city. Reasoning behind this is because I've had larger meals for the same price elsewhere in Norwich. My final point is that we had a service charge for 10% at the bottom of the bill which isn't clearly stated anywhere, I felt it was
unnecessary and should be left to the diner to decide whether to pay it or not.
